Blogger Recognition Award
Thank you very much for the always very lovely Pace of Mind for nominating me for this blogger award. As per usual, I had no idea what it was or what to do, but that’s not a surprise, right?
As a part of this award, you’re supposed to write how your blog started. That’s actually quite an interesting story. I started this blog to practice my written English for my master thesis. Back then, this blog was called ‘New Honesty’ (what a cool name, huh?) and I wrote about misconceptions about the gay community. I soon realized that I wanted to write more and more about personal stuff. I wanted to change the name of this blog to something that represents me and my life perfectly. So, I came up with My Casual Trainwreck Life. Don’t know if that’s something anybody’s interested in, but fun fact on the side, the name is actually inspired by a marihuana strain.
Also, I should give two pieces of advice to new bloggers. I don’t think I know much about anything… but here are my precious insights:
- You are your blog
When this blog was still called ‘New Honesty’ I always felt pressured into what kind of content I could create that fit my blog. After a while, the content began to feel inauthentic. That’s when I realized I just needed to write about what’s really important to me. Fuck it, I had to think outside the box I put myself in. I am what I write and there’s nothing more intimate than putting it out in the world. But, it always feels good afterward. The harder it is to press ‘publish’ the better the blog post probably is. - You don’t need to belong everywhere but find who belongs to you
When I started, I read a lot of cool other blogs about basically anything and everything and I always wondered why I couldn’t attract that kind of views (Not that I do now). Turns out I was looking in the wrong direction. Of course, I still read whatever I like, but the truth is that to me it just makes more sense to interact with other LGBT+ blogs. Find fellow bloggers you love and comment, get in contact. Everyone’s up their own asses, so if you compliment a fellow blogger’s work, I’m sure they’re more likely to check you out too. Just make sure you actually mean what you write!
I want to nominate the following blogs for the Blogger Recognition Award:
Truly Madly Sassy
The Guysexual
At Least I Have a friggin Glass

Do you think I should change my blog name from At Least I Have A Friggin’ Glass to Not Bad For An Old Gay?
Cuz in the last week, I am fortunate enough to have been nominated for two blogger awards and that’s…not bad for an old gay.
Thank you for the nod, it’s really appreciated! I’m glad you are enjoying the ‘Glass.

Well, I’m really bad at guessing ages and the photos on here are tiny but from what I can tell you’re not really old. I guess my defiition of old starts were my definition of fuckable ends (Sorry if that’s too blunt), so no need to worry 😉 But if you feel like that’s a better name for your blog, go for it 😀
That’s a crazy coincidence that we both nominated you but I’m happy to see you happy.
xoxo

On a side-note, I just realized that I’ve always mis-read your blog name. I never saw the ‘I’ and thought it was ‘At least have a friggin glass’. haha
galby68
BYOG? I’m a better host than that!
Ben Leander
Yeah I’d guess so because in my mind you were ‘saying’ that whatever shit goes down in my life I should at least have a friggin glass (with you). Now I have to figure out what your blog name actually means.
galby68
Just bring your glass – I have plenty, but there *may* be strings – and we’ll figure out all life’s shit while we tipple!
Ben Leander
Sounds go to me! When + where? 😀

Every day is my Saturday at the moment…🤗

Oh my goodness! Best news I’ve had all day! Thank you so much for the nomination!! And I loved what you had to say, even though you don’t think you know what you’re talking about haha.
Ben Leander
I’m so glad to hear that! (Although I hope tommorrow will be filled with more good news for you), and I look forward to you participating 🙂

I had some SEO work that had to be done. All these google links that make no sense and go to weird places on my blog! $400 later…🤑…just waiting on the final estimate. Apparently, I don’t know how to index at all. Ugh. But you made my day much better! XoXo
Ben Leander
I don’t know how to do any of that too. Yoast – in my cast – should be called Roast. It doesn’t like the way I do anything haha I think I’ll rather focus on the content itself for now.
Anyway, glad I could give you some nice news 🙂 xoxo
Kristi McAllister
It has taken me forever to get yoast on my side. And there are some things that are super easy me to find very readable but yoast is PICKY! Roast is the perfect name for it. As in roast in hell. Haha.
Ben Leander
I always feel like it roasts me. And I seriously don’t know what it wants me doing – and doubt that it understands me. I feel like I’m in an abusive relationship with it 🙁 haha

I told my SEO guy what you said. He was dying laughing. Hahaha! Haven’t forgotten about your recognition! Just trying to find those blogs I love who haven’t gotten it already so I can nominate 🙂
Ben Leander
Haha I love that! Of course, take your time and I’m looking forward to it.
It almost took me a month to publish this because I’m lazy af, so no worries^^

Thank you for the nomination.
Great blogging tips. Spot on.
Ben Leander
Of course! You’re always a good read! I know you’re probably getting flooded with nominations but still wanted to nominate you 😊

Always an honor.
I’ve been neglecting the world of WordPress this past month and I think people noticed. I marvel at those who still remember me.
Ben Leander
Well I can understand that sometimes you don’t have the time for it. I unfortunately also have way too little time for commenting on others but sometimes there’s just nothing you can do about it.
